The local branch of CAMRA has announced the winners of this year's local community pub awards.  The awards recognise the outstanding contribution these pubs make in their local community.

This year there are four suburban and one estate pub reflecting the wide range of pubs that have been voted on.

Steve Heighton from Rugby CAMRA stated, 'In these difficult times with nationally nearly 40 pubs a week being lost it is important to recognise the fantastic work done by these locals pubs. The five winners all have common they are a central feature to their area and are the hub of their community. These pubs don't just sell real ales and other drinks but cater for local needs including making vital contributions to local sports and games clubs and also local and national charities'.

The awards are to be made next week in the half term week and Steve added, 'Next week is an ideal opportunity to go and visit your local pub for a drink, meal or let the kids play in the pub gardens.  If you have forgotten how good your local pub is now is time to remind yourself '.

Pubs receiving awards are:

CHEQUERS, SWINFORD
ARNOLD ARMS, BARBY
GRIFFIN INN, ROKEBY ESTATE, RUGBY
BELL, HILLMORTON
GEORGE, BILTON
