The prestigious Warwickshire Beer of the Year competition is being run at the Merchants Inn from the 1st to the 21st August. The competition is being run by the Merchants and CAMRA, the Campaign for Real Ale, and all the breweries in Warwickshire are invited to participate. So far ten of the breweries have sent beers over and these cover the whole county and give a great selection to vote on.

Steve Heighton from Rugby CAMRA stated ''This is a brilliant competition as it is the general public who vote on the beers and so everyone can join in and help pick the best in the County. There are five beers in the first week and five in the second week and then the heat winners go to the third week which is the final. The decision will be made known on August 23rd. With such a wide variety of the very best real ales on Warwickshire this gives the people of Rugby a chance to make their mark by deciding which is the best in the County''.

Scott Whyment the manager at the Merchants added "As its all blind tasting , its also great fun and quite an eye opener, last year was a huge success and this year will be even better. The pubs website www.merchantsinn.co.uk has all the details of the brewers''.

The brewers participating are Atomic, Church End, Griffin, Merry Miner, Morgan Ales, North Cotswold, Purity, Tunnel, Warwickshire and Wood Farm. Atomic, Morgan and Wood Farm are all local to Rugby .
