The Rugby Tap has been voted the Pub of the Year 2016  by the local branch of CAMRA . The bar and off-license have retained the title from last year amongst fierce competition. The quality of pubs and bars in Rugby meant a record breaking 10 pubs were nominated and with the highest number of votes ever cast it was a close run competition with the Tap winning.

Steve Heighton from CAMRA stated ‘ With Rugby being so well respected for its Real Ale pubs to win the award a second time is a great achievement. The Rugby Tap is a worthy winner as it showcases locally brewed beers from Dowbridge and Church End , Byatts from Coventry , Phipps and Gun Dog from Northampton   as well as other exceptional guest beers and ciders,  and all served from the barrel . You can also select from the extensive range of bottled beer from around the world from the on-site off licence.

Colin Arthur, the owner and Ken Devereaux also provide a table service , which is a unique and friendly way to meet its customers . The pub has no TV’s or taped music which means that conversations and meeting friends to drink and talk about the ales is made all the easier !’

Steve added ‘ The runner up was the Merchants Inn which is another excellent example of a pub with a number of different real ales , including beers and ciders again straight from the barrels, while specialising in providing Rugger and sports for its customers. Scott and his team have again done a brilliant job. ‘.

The Winners award will be presented on Sunday the 29th January at 1.30pm at the Rugby Tap. All welcome to this.
