Rugby CAMRA Campaigns

Rugby CAMRA are currently focusing all campaigning on encouraging everyone to visit their local pub and drink real ale to help our traditional breweries and pubs survive the current recession.

We will be doing this by focusing on the following campaigns:

Local Pubs Week - 3rd - 10th October

With the most recent Beer & Pub Association report highlighting that 5 pubs are closing every day, CAMRA has to do more than ever to support local pubs through these difficult times.

CAMRA has launched a new campaign called Local Pubs Week for 2009.  From the National CAMRA Web site:

Local Pubs Week is about:

Raising  the profile and importance of pubs in the community

1.      Encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to use community  pubs  and visit the pub more often than they currently do

2.      Encourage pubs to organise events during the week to entice more trade

Working with PubAid - CAMRA's next community pubs campaign, 'Pubs & Charity', will take place in July. Rugby CAMRA will be supporting this campaign.

British pubs get a rough deal in some of the media and get unfairly blamed for problems such as under-age binge drinking and other unsocial behaviour.

July's Pubs & Charity campaign is all about raising the profile of pubs by highlighting the excellent work they do to raise money for so many important causes.

It is estimated pubs raise in excess of £100 million a year for charities and CAMRA will encourage the media to promote this positive message and give pubs the boost they deserve.

What can you do to help?

Encourage your local pub to sign up for a FREE promotional pack by visiting

Encourage your local pub to organise a few charity events in July and help them raise some important funds. These can be promoted for free on the Community Pubs Campaign website

If you attend any Pubs & Charity events then please take a few photos and email them to

Make sure you spread the word and encourage your friends and family to support your local pub's charity events.

If your pub has been supporting charities for some time then let us know  what they have been

doing by visiting  and adding them as a case study. We will use this information to tell the local, regional and national media.

Thanks for your support.

'It's Better Down The Pub'

CAMRA is supporting a national campaign to celebrate Britain's love for pubs.

It's Better Down The Pub', supported by a large number of pub and leisure companies, is designed to celebrate the Great British pub. As part of the initiative, pub-goers can win some amazing prizes by submitting short videos, uploading photos or writing short stories that explain why 'It's Better Down The Pub'.

All you need to do is visit to enter.

CAMRA LocAle is a new initiative that promotes pubs stocking locally brewed real ale. The scheme builds on a growing consumer demand for quality local produce and an increased awareness of 'green' issues.

The CAMRA LocAle scheme was created in 2007 by CAMRA's Nottingham branch which wanted to help support the tradition of brewing within Nottinghamshire, following the demise of local brewer Hardys and Handsons.

Everyone benefits from local pubs stocking locally-brewed real ale. Public houses as stocking local real ales can increase pub visits as consumers enjoy greater beer choice and diversity. Local brewers gain from increased sales and the local economy because more money is spent and retained locally. The environment due to fewer 'beer miles' resulting in less road congestion and pollution. Tourism due to an increased sense of local identity and pride - let's celebrate what makes our locality different.
